Are banks blocking AI agents that log in as you?

Are banks blocking AI agents that log in as you? Who US banks are turning away, where DBS, OCBC and UOB stand, and how to connect your accounts safely from Singapore.

Some US banks have started blocking AI agents that log in with a customer's own password, such as Meta's Muse, and that has people in Singapore asking whether DBS, OCBC or UOB will do the same. No Singapore bank has announced a block, and you do not need to wait to find out: your AI can reach your accounts through a connection you approve yourself, without ever seeing your banking password.

Why are US banks blocking AI agents?

US banks have begun shutting out AI agents that log in with a customer's own password, and Meta's Muse and Instinct are the names in the news. A bot using your login looks like an intruder, and it is unclear who pays when it gets something wrong. JPMorgan Chase says it refuses any outside agent that signs in with a customer's banking credentials, and Wells Fargo's new terms, from 24 November 2026, keep you liable for any AI agent you authorise until you prove you revoked it.

ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity work differently. In the US they connect to banks through authorised Plaid connectors, read-only, and their own finance features are for US banks only.

It helps to read the story as a sign of where banking is heading. Asking an AI "what did I spend last month?" is becoming an ordinary way to look after money, and banks are now deciding on what terms to allow it. People who already have an authorised route, with no password handed to a chatbot, have nothing to wait for. American Banker's report of 27 October 2026, which names Muse and Instinct has the full picture.

Will DBS, OCBC and UOB block agents that log in as you?

There is no announcement of a block from DBS, OCBC, UOB or the other banks in Singapore. The setting is different from the US: your data stays yours, MAS encourages banks to share data through approved APIs, and tools such as SGFinDex already show that a customer can choose to pull their own financial information together.

So the question for a DBS or OCBC customer is not whether the bank will let you use ChatGPT. It is which authorised route gets your accounts to your assistant. That route is a connection you approve, covering only what you choose to share, which you can cancel whenever you like. Whether any bank has built its own MCP server is a separate question, answered in does my bank have an MCP? DBS, OCBC, UOB, Revolut.

Is it safe to connect my bank to ChatGPT or Claude?

It is safe when your password never goes to the assistant and when the connection is something you approved and can switch off. The assistant talks to an authorised go-between, not to your bank, and you can see what it asked for.

Era works this way. You connect your bank, approve access in the bank's own app or login, then add Era as an MCP server in Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity. Era never stores your bank credentials, your data is encrypted at rest and in transit, every request appears in an activity log, and no provider trains on your data. Singapore's PDPA covers how your personal data is handled. For the wider question of who is responsible when an agent gets it wrong, read is it safe to give AI your financial data.

How do I connect my Singapore accounts to my AI without waiting for the bank?

You do not need your bank to build anything, and you do not need to be a US bank's customer. Era connects accounts across the US, the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Spain, and 40+ countries in all. Where an account cannot be linked directly, you import its statement into a manual account.

The steps are short:

  1. Create an account at era.app.
  2. Connect your bank, or import a statement into the Document Library.
  3. In Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini, add https://context.era.app as an MCP server.
  4. Approve the consent screen. Nothing connects without your yes.

The full walkthroughs are how to connect ChatGPT to your bank account and how to connect Claude to your bank account.

What changes if I use more than one assistant?

You get one connection that every assistant shares. Connect your accounts to Era once, and Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and the rest all read the same picture and the same memory, so a goal you mention to one is already known to the others.

That is the opposite of a separate MCP server for each bank and a separate setup for each assistant. DBS, OCBC, UOB, Revolut and any other account sit in one place, and you switch assistants without starting over. Can AI agents share financial memory explains how the shared memory works.

What can I ask my AI once my accounts are connected?

You can ask the questions you now answer by hand: the balance across every account, spending by category, subscriptions you forgot you pay for, and how this month compares with last month. Then you can go further, with your financial health in figures and the analysis behind them.

Era also gives you a shared space with a partner or housemates to settle shared costs, and reads the statements, payslips and tax forms you add to the Document Library, filing them for you. For ideas to start with, see what to ask AI about your money and Claude Finance in Singapore.
