Use Claude with your money: connect your bank today
Link your banks and cards to Claude, then have it categorize, tag and set rules on your real transactions: the setup, each plan's access, and what to ask first.
Claude can answer from your real balances and transactions instead of numbers you paste into the chat, and on a paid plan it can recategorize, tag and write rules for you too. To set it up, link your bank accounts and credit cards in Era, then add Era Context, Era's connector for Claude, from Claude's connector directory. There's no extra app to learn: you keep talking to Claude.
Era is an independent company; Claude is made by Anthropic.
How do I connect Claude to my money?
Link your banks and cards in Era, then add Era Context to Claude from Claude's connector directory and approve access. On any Claude plan you can instead add it as a custom connector using Era's server address. Claude then answers from your real balances and transactions, not a statement you pasted in.
The short version takes about five minutes:
- Create an Era account at era.app. The Basic tier is free.
- Link your bank. In Era, choose Connect an account, pick your bank, and sign in through a connection flow run by a regulated aggregator. Era never has your bank login. Add your credit cards the same way.
- Add Era Context to Claude. Connect Era Context to Claude opens Era Context in Claude's connector directory. Choose Add to Claude.
- Approve access. Sign in to Era and approve the consent screen. Nothing connects until you do.
- Ask your first question. "What's my checking balance, and what did I spend this week?" is a good start.
To cut off Claude alone later, open Agents, then API keys in Era, choose Revoke on the key marked Auto for Claude, then Revoke key. Claude can't get new access after that, and any access it still holds expires within an hour. Disconnecting a bank in Era cuts off every assistant you've connected.
Prefer to add it by hand? In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, choose +, then Add custom connector, and paste https://context.era.app/mcp as the server URL. Custom connectors work on every Claude plan, and Claude's Free plan allows one.

Can Claude connect to my bank through Plaid?
Plaid's listing in Claude's connector directory is a developer tool for companies that build on Plaid; it doesn't link your own bank accounts. To give Claude your balances, transactions and spending, add Era Context to Claude and link your banks and cards in Era, then ask Claude your first question.
The listing is Plaid Developer Tools, made by Plaid. Its directory page describes tools that help developers debug connections, read analytics and check usage for their own Plaid integrations. When Plaid first brought its developer tools to Claude, it said in its announcement that Claude does not have access to consumer financial data through them.
So if you searched for "connect Claude to Plaid" hoping to see your own money in Claude, that listing answers a different question. Claude's connector directory also lists Era Context, marked Anthropic verified in the financial services category, and it's built to put your own accounts in front of Claude.
What can Claude do with my money once it's connected?
Claude can break down your spending, list recurring charges and forecast your cash flow. It can also recategorize transactions, add tags and set rules for future spending. Moving money between your own accounts is in private beta and always needs your approval. Outside the private beta, Claude can read and organize your accounts, but it can't move money.
Try these once you're connected:
- "How much did I spend on eating out last month, and how does that compare with the month before?"
- "List every recurring charge I'm paying for, biggest first."
- "Forecast my spending for the rest of the month."
- "Recategorize every rideshare charge this year as Transportation."
- "Tag everything I spent on the kitchen remodel."
- "Make a rule that files every coffee shop charge under Dining."
Reading and analysis work on every plan. The last three change your data, so they need edit access, which starts on the Organize tier. When Claude writes a rule, it shows you the rule first, and the rule keeps running between conversations, so next month's transactions arrive already sorted. Recategorizing and tagging happen straight away, and Era keeps an edit trail, so you can undo any change, yours or Claude's.

Is my bank supported?
Era connects accounts across the US, the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Spain, and 40+ countries in all. It links them through regulated aggregators, so start the connect flow in Era to see whether your bank is listed. If it isn't, import a CSV export from your bank, and Claude works from that history instead.
Checking accounts, savings accounts and credit cards all connect the same way. For a bank that isn't listed, add a manual account in Era and use Import CSV to bring in the export. You can also hand the file to Claude and ask it to import the transactions for you.
Does Claude remember my money goals between chats?
Yes. When you tell Claude a goal, a budget limit or a preference, Era stores it as a fact you can view, edit or delete. Claude can recall it in your next chat, and so can ChatGPT, Meta's Muse or any other assistant you connect to Era, so you never repeat yourself.
Say "remember that I'm saving for a down payment" once, and every connected assistant can work toward it. Everything Era has stored is on the Shared memory page, under Agents in Era, where you can change a fact or remove it for good. How to set up cross-agent memory walks through it.
What does it cost to use Claude with Era?
Era's Basic tier is free and covers two connected accounts with read access, enough to follow this guide. Paid tiers add more accounts and edit access, so Claude can create rules, recategorize transactions and tag spending for you. Current prices for every tier are on Era's pricing page.
Organize is the first tier with edit access and the full rules engine. Higher tiers add more accounts and more frequent syncing. See pricing for what each tier includes.
Era encrypts your data with AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.3 in transit, never stores your bank login, never sells your data, and never uses it to train models. If you want the full picture before you connect, read is it safe to give AI your financial data.
