Which AI assistants can connect to your bank?
Which AI assistants can connect to your bank? Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok and Muse compared by route, with one Era hub that links them all.
Claude, ChatGPT and Perplexity connect to US banks through read-only Plaid links, while agents that sign in with your password, such as Muse and Instinct when they work that way, are the ones banks are blocking. Gemini reads cards and passes in Google Wallet but has no bank link of its own. Era sits underneath all of them as one authorised hub that your bank approves and every assistant shares, in 40+ countries.
This page is a reference you can scan: the first table shows how each assistant reaches your accounts through Era, the second shows what each assistant offers by itself and where, and the rest explains why one connection tends to beat five.
Which AI assistants can connect to a bank account?
Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Grok, Meta's Muse, Instinct, Poke, OpenClaw, Cursor, VS Code, GitHub Copilot and Claude Code can all work from your real bank data once Era is connected. Some take an official listing, some take Era's server address and some take an Era API key, and in every case you approve each assistant yourself.
| Assistant | Route into Era | How you approve it |
|---|---|---|
| Claude | Era Context's official listing in Claude's connector directory, then Add to Claude (walkthrough) | Era's consent screen |
| ChatGPT | Era Context's official plugin for ChatGPT and Codex (walkthrough) | Era's consent screen |
| Perplexity | Era's official connector, on plans that support custom connectors (walkthrough) | Era's consent screen |
| Gemini | Era's server address, added wherever your Gemini lets you add an MCP server, such as Gemini CLI (walkthrough) | Era's consent screen |
| Grok | Era's server address or an Era API key (walkthrough) | Era's consent screen or your key |
| Meta's Muse | A Custom Connector built from Era's API documentation (walkthrough) | An Era API key |
| Instinct | The same API-key route (walkthrough) | An Era API key |
| Poke | Settings, Integrations, then a new template (walkthrough) | Era's consent screen |
| OpenClaw | Settings, then MCP server configuration | Era's consent screen |
| Cursor | A one-click install link, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json |
Era's consent screen |
| VS Code and GitHub Copilot | .vscode/mcp.json |
An Era API key |
| Claude Code | .mcp.json in your project |
Era's consent screen |
The server address for every one of them is https://context.era.app/mcp, and connect any AI agent to your bank accounts has the exact snippet for each client. Era connects accounts across the US, the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Spain, and 40+ countries in all, so the table reads the same wherever your bank is.
Which assistants have a bank link of their own?
Claude, ChatGPT and Perplexity connect to US banks through Plaid, read-only, and their finance features are US-only. Muse has a built-in link too, but Muse and Instinct, when they sign in with your password, are what banks are blocking. Era goes further by working in every assistant at once, across 40+ countries, with the same memory behind all of them.
| Assistant | Its own bank link | Where it applies | Date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude | Personal Finance in Claude, read-only, linking US banks | United States | November 5, 2026 |
| ChatGPT | Finances in ChatGPT, read-only through Plaid, for Free and Go users among others on web, iOS and Android | United States | 2026 |
| Perplexity | A Plaid connector, read-only | United States | 2026 |
| Gemini | Reads cards and passes in Google Wallet, and has no bank-account link of its own | United States | Not a bank link |
| Muse | A built-in Finances experience that links US accounts through Plaid; banks block Muse when it signs in with a password instead | United States | Early September 2026 |
| Instinct, Grok and the rest | Instinct signs in with your credentials, which banks are blocking; the others reach your accounts through Era | Every market Era connects | Available now |
Those built-in links answer a real need, and they sit side by side with Era rather than against it: Claude can use its own link for a quick look and Era for the whole picture, including the banks outside any one assistant's list.
Why connect one hub instead of linking each assistant?
One hub means you approve your bank once, and each assistant then asks Era for what it needs and can be cut off on its own. That matters as banks write rules for AI: Wells Fargo's new terms take effect on November 24, 2026 and Chase's updated agreement makes the customer responsible for improper use of their login, and both reach agents that use your credentials.
When your bank gives you one authorised link to manage, instead of a separate login handed to each assistant, the terms become something you can live with. You see every assistant Era knows about on the API keys page, you revoke one with Revoke and Revoke key, and your other assistants carry on.
The same hub is what makes the assistants feel like one. Tell Claude you're saving for a down payment on a house, and ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity already know it, because Era's memory sits underneath all of them. How to set up cross-agent memory walks through how that works.
What can an assistant answer once it's connected?
Once an assistant is connected through Era it can answer from your real accounts: balances, spending by category, recurring charges, cash flow, forecasts and your financial health, with the figures behind each score and the analysis that goes with them. It can also read your investments and the documents you've added.
Ask for your holdings and it lists every position. Hand it a bank statement, a payslip or a tax form, and it reads the document, gives you the numbers and shows where on the page each one came from. On a paid plan an assistant can also recategorize transactions, add tags and set rules for you, and a shared space lets a partner or housemate see the same figures.
Can any of these assistants move my money?
Moving money between your own accounts is in private beta, it's off by default for every key, and every transfer needs your approval. Outside the private beta, an assistant can read and organize your accounts, but it can't move money anywhere.
Do I need a paid plan?
Era's Basic tier is free and gives any connected assistant read access to two manual accounts, plus a Document Library starter quota. Live data connections, which keep your balances current automatically, are a paid feature, and so is edit access for assistants.
The pricing page lists what each tier includes.
Where do I start?
Pick the assistant you already use and follow its walkthrough in the first table. If you use several, start with the one you open most, because connecting a second takes about a minute once Era has your bank, and every one you add reads the same accounts and the same memory.
Developers can find the same details in the Era Context MCP server reference.
