Emma, Snoop, YNAB and Era: UK money apps (2026)

Emma, Snoop, YNAB and Era compared for UK money management: prices, UK bank connections, AI assistants, households and financial health in a single table.

Emma, Snoop, YNAB and Era are four different answers to the same question, which is how to keep track of your money in the UK. Emma and Snoop are UK apps built on open banking. YNAB is a budgeting method from the United States with software around it. Era is the hub that Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini connect to, so your money is something you can talk about with the assistant you already use.

Which UK money app is best?

The best app is the one that matches how you want to look after your money. Emma suits people who like a friendly app on their phone. Snoop suits people who want to be told where they could pay less. YNAB suits people who like a strict method and are happy to pay in dollars.

Era suits people who would rather ask Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini and have everything, including the household and the documents, in one place.

Emma

Emma connects almost every UK bank, sorts your spending and finds your subscriptions, and has free and paid plans. Its Spaces feature lets you share money with other people. It is a strong choice for an everyday mobile app. See Emma app alternatives for how it fits with the others.

Snoop

Snoop connects the major UK banks that support open banking, looks for savings on your bills and has a free plan with Snoop Plus at £5.99 a month or £47.99 a year. It is a strong choice if you want an app that goes looking for savings. See Snoop alternatives.

YNAB

YNAB asks you to give every pound a job before you spend it, and many people say it changed how they think about money. It costs US$14.99 a month or US$109 a year, its direct import works with select UK banks, and its public API means other tools can build on it. See YNAB vs Emma and Snoop vs YNAB, and read about which UK banks YNAB supports.

Era

Era is a hub rather than an app you visit. You connect it once to Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini, add your UK banks through open banking, and then ask questions about your own money. Because Era holds the memory, what you tell one assistant the others already know. It also has:

  • Financial health. Your finances shown in figures, with the measures behind them and the analysis that explains what is moving them.
  • Shared spaces. You and a partner or housemates can share balances, split a cost, mark it as paid, undo it if you change your mind, and see who owes whom.
  • A document library. Statements, payslips and tax forms are read and filed, and any assistant can answer from them.
  • Open banking in the UK. Era connects accounts across the US, the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Spain, and 40+ countries in all.

How do the four handle AI?

Emma and Snoop each use AI inside their own app: Emma has in-app features, and Snoop has AI-assisted insights about savings. YNAB has no assistant of its own, though its public API lets people build connectors. Era is the one that connects to the assistants you already use, so you ask them directly.

The difference shows in the way you work. With an in-app feature, you go to the app and read what it says. With Era, you stay in Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini and ask the question you have in mind, which might be about your accounts, a document or your household, and the answer comes back where you were already working.

Because Era holds a shared memory, a goal you describe to one assistant is known to the others. Nothing in Emma, Snoop or YNAB does that, since none of them sits between the assistants.

How do the four handle a household?

YNAB lets you share a budget with up to six people, and everyone works in the same detail. Emma has Spaces. Snoop is built for one person. Era has shared spaces, where each person chooses which balances to show.

In an Era space everyone sees the same figures for whatever has been shared. You can mark a bill as paid, split a cost and undo it, and you can see who owes whom. Anything you have not shared stays private, which suits couples who keep some money separate and flatmates who share only the bills.

How do the four handle paperwork?

None of Emma, Snoop or YNAB is built to hold your documents. Era has a document library that reads statements, payslips and tax forms and files them. An assistant can then answer from the document and show you the page it used.

That helps with questions about tax codes, mortgage statements and what was paid in on a given date.

You can also bring a statement into Era as a manual account, using transaction import. That is the quickest way to add a bank that has no live connection, and a good way to bring in history from an app you are leaving.

Who should pick which app

  • Pick Emma if you want a friendly app on your phone that shows spending and subscriptions with little effort, and a way to share money with other people on paid plans.
  • Pick Snoop if your main goal is to spend less on bills and subscriptions, and you want a simple choice between free and one paid plan.
  • Pick YNAB if you want a method that changes how you plan, you are happy to build a habit, and you do not mind paying in dollars.
  • Pick Era if you already use Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini and want them to know your money, your household and your documents, with financial health shown in figures.

You can combine them. Open banking lets the same bank feed more than one tool, and each tool holds its own consent that you can withdraw at your bank.

Can I use Era with one of the others?

Yes. Open banking lets the same bank feed more than one tool, so keeping Emma or Snoop for the app experience and adding Era for your assistants is a perfectly good combination. Start on the free plan with two manual accounts, and the pricing page shows what the paid plans add.

See pricing page.

Which one should I choose?

If you already have an assistant you like, start with Era and ask it the question you would have opened an app to answer. If you want a self-contained app, pick Emma or Snoop. If you want a method, pick YNAB.
